Revolut outage disrupts online banking operations worldwide

Fintech company Revolut is working to resolve a massive outage that disrupted most of its services worldwide earlier today.

Since the incident began, thousands of users on the Downdetector outage tracking platform have reported issues with the Revolut app, mobile banking services, and transferring funds between accounts.

In a statement today, the company said the outage has affected its services since Tuesday morning and added that customers' data and funds are safe.

"We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers' money and data are safe," Revolut said.

"We've been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologise to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused."

On its official status page, the company says the outage affects 28 services, including sign-ins, card payments, transfers, currency exchange, stock trading, and live support chat, which are now flagged as partially unavailable.

According to Reuters, the Revolut outage is reportedly linked to ongoing service disruptions affecting Google Cloud's London-based europe-west2 data center after a "power event."

A Revolut spokesperson was not immediately available when BleepingComputer reached out earlier about the root cause of today's outage.

Last month, Revolut also disclosed a data breach after it shared personally identifiable information (PII) from an undisclosed number of customers with a threat actor who was impersonating a government agency.

Four years ago, Revolut disclosed another data breach after threat actors stole the personal, contact, and financial information of more than 50,000 customers in September 2022.

Revolut provides banking, money management, and investment services to more than 80 million customers across 160+ countries and regions, including 800,000 business customers.
