New ChatGPT o3-alpha model hints at coding upgrade
ChatGPT's o3 is OpenAI's best model to date because it features reasoning, and it might get even better in the next update.
As spotted on X, OpenAI is testing a new "Alpha" variant of the o3 model, which has significant coding-related improvements.
In our tests, BleepingComputer observed that o3-alpha is better than o3 in designing web pages, even with simple prompts. Others have spotted that o3-alpha is really good at creating simple web games.

This model is called "o3-alpha-responses-2025-07-17" on WebArena, and it appears with the name "Anonymous-Chatbot."
It doesn't appear to be the open-source model OpenAI is planning to release.
It also doesn't appear to be o4 because o4 simply doesn't exist as OpenAI plans to combine reasoning and multi-modal with GPT-5.
Could o3-alpha be one of those big updates to o3? Possible
At the same time, it also cannot be ruled out that it's one of the models that support improvements that we might see in GPT-5 eventually.
